Baddesley Park 6-0 Hythe FC

After last weeks disappointment in the Hampshire Cup, today saw an all inspiring Baddesley secure a confident victory. After a nervous first few minutes a corner was floated to the near post by Joseph, flicked on by Ben, driven in by Matt and after a tense few seconds we somehow scrambled the ball towards the goal line and an unlucky Hythe player tapped the ball into his own net.

The team settled down and dominated for a long period but failed to make it count. A good ball from Matt let Haydn in on the edge of the penalty area, after some superb skill he passed to Ben who was out wide and a fantastic low shot flew under the keeper and into the far corner of the net. Soon after the restart a long Hythe ball shot over the heads of our defence and surely this would be 2-1; but possibly one touch too many allowed James to come out and make an outstanding block with his feet and it remained 2-0. The game remained evenly matched all the way until the half time whistle.

We went out for the second half full of confidence but Hythe dominated for a long spell and some brilliant defending by Jack and crunching tackles from Josh allowed us to step out and put more pressure on Hythe. Then quick thinking led to Tom chipping their attack and the ball was received by Rhys; after a few quick steps down the line he played it inside to Joseph. Joseph played an early ball through to Haydn and some brilliant timing meant that he was two yards ahead of the defence and not off-side. This left him one on one with the keeper, who was quick to come out and block him but Jon was close by. The ball bounced straight to him, he took it round the outside of the keeper and smashed it into the open net.

Baddesley were starting to get to grips with the off-side rule and very soon after our third goal, a fantastic through ball from Jon this time fell to Sam and he made no mistake by slotting the ball into the bottom corner in yet another one on one. We were begining to settle for 4-0 but there was no rest as Hythe kept on attacking. After a great tackle from Marley the ball was picked up by Tom and a fantastic ball down the line to a perfectly timed run from Michael led to him taking on their left back and putting an excellent cross into Jon. Jon once again secured another goal by carefully slotting it into the tight gap between the goal keeper and the near post.

Hythe still didn't give up and kept on challenging our defence and yet another solid tackle from Josh sent the ball spinning in the air. This left Rhys with a difficult ball to control but he made it look easy and strode down the left wing, almost half the length of the pitch. Brilliant vision meant that he picked out Michael who was steaming into the far post unnoticed by the Hythe defence. He had timed the run just right which left him with a simple volley into the half open net and secured a promising 6-0 victory for Baddesley.

First Victory of the Season - Baddesley Park FC 2 - Winsor United Sports 1

After a slow start to the season in the league the U12s today showed more of the promise that is always there in training but seems to escape them in competition.
Playing against a Winsor side who are finding it as tough in Div 5 as we have in Div 6 the boy
s looked comfortable from the kick off. And it was solid defensive work that gave
them the points today. Ben and Tom played confidently and safely throughout -
always prefering to get the ball out of danger rather than risk giving the opposition a chance. Both players did make themselves some space and time
and played
good balls forward when they had the chance. As ever, Josh supported on the left, blocking well and supplying a useful feed in from the touchline. On the right, Rhys, in only his third game, adapted well to a new position, defending excellently and also moving forward intelligently, playing some good passes to Michael and the
n finding space for the return. Meanwhile, James continues to improve in goal and collected the ball safely whenever required. The good news was that his defense protected him well and his shot stopping skills weren't often required
All the goals came in the first half. Baddesley scored first with a well worked goal driven into the net superbly by Michael. Billy waited all last season to see him put one away like that in a match and
at last we got to see him do it away from the training ground. The team then continued to dominate with Matt and Joseph connecting in midfield and holding their positions well. Michael made himslef available wide on the right and although he could have been used more the boys did start to move it out on occassion. Jon had a great game too, dropping back to left midfield for the game and showing terrier like capability in defense and a good football head when working with Haydn and Sam in attack. Haydn was extremely unlucky to be given offside when turning their defense and was utilising his team mates well in attack.

However, despite all the good news our focus slipped for just enough to let Winsor back in with a goal towards the end of the half. The team responded well and it wasn't long before Baddesley were ahead again with a sound goal created by play between Sam and Micheal and with Sam providing the all important finish.

The second half provided stalemate, but
Baddesley always looked comfortable and when Michael headed in from the far post they looked to have sealed it but he was given offside and Winsor were given another chance. Matt was unlucky not to score
on a couple of occassions and needs to stay patient and keep his head and he'll start putting them away soon. Only minutes from the final whistle, Haydn chased down a ball only to force their keeper to handle the ball outside the area. Winsor had a big let off and it would have been unjust if they had gone on to score. Fortunately, the boys kept working hard right to the end, not backing out of anything and Joseph and Ben showed the determination needed when both
challenged hard in the air Joe getting the ball and a shoulder injury in the process.
