12-09-2010 Hampshire Cup
City Central

Having heard a few rumours we arrived at this game not knowing what to
expect.  Ellis was unavailable due to vomiting which I'd rather not go in
to  too much! We were also on the pitch with the wind chill and furthest
away from the "tea van".  Things were not looking good!  So we were
pleasantly surprised when we scored.  Fraser started off by missing the
goal (nothing new there then) , there was then a scramble in the goal with
Tom battling and getting the ball in the net. One nil.  Callum then put in
our second goal.  I can't remember much about it but I know it only just
went in and Lynette said to say that he could do better!!  Dillon then
scored, he chipped it and it looked like it was going to go over the top
but it dipped at  the last minute to make goal number three.  Somewhere in
all this City Central scored two goals but I didn't make notes on those.
A lovely piece of footwork from Jack aided Dan's goal to be followed by
Dillon's second goal from Callum's corner.  So 5-2 at half-time.
Somewhere in the first half there was a Jack "How did he miss that?" moment.

Matt had a few chances in the second half, a beautifully set up ball that
hit the corner of the right hand post was one but as yet they just don't
want to actually go in the goal-it will come soon.

Dan made some good saves as usual and at one point Callum did a good job
of keeping the ball out of the goal to stop City Central getting a third.
Callum took three free kicks which, unusually for Callum, didn't hit the
target.  His Mum said they were pretty half-hearted attempts but after
mentioning this to Steve he was outraged and said Callum never does
anything half heartedly and I have to admit, he has a point!  After the
first free kick, Callum lay on the floor injured then hobbled off the
pitch,  a quick hug from the manager and back on he went, good as new.
Jack battled hard to get goal number six then Mike did a spectacular (he
told me to write that!!)flying header from a corner(apparantly, he's since
admitted that he had his eyes shut and it just hit him on the head)!  This
all  meant we finished with a comfortable 7-3 win.

Can you tell I made notes throughout the match?!  I've always wanted to be
a journalist, sports journalism wouldn't be my first choice but everyone
's got to start somewhere!!

Roll on the second round, Gosport on 10th October away.

Goals
Tom 1
Callum 1
Dillon 2
Dan 1
Jack 1
Mike 1

Alresford Town 5-9-10
2-3

Firstly I must apologise as I write the match reports and I'm not very
technical but but I do remember who scores the goals, the arguments and
who gets Man of the Match!  I.e the important bits.

The weather this morning was maybe preparing us for games to come-rain-
but it did cheer up and half way through the first half, the sun came out.
After about the first 20 minutes Alresford scored from a deflected free
kick, apparently it went through the middle of the wall.  Then Ellis
battled, tackled a defender and finished with style putting the ball into
the bottom right hand corner of the goal to make it 1-1 at half-time.
(Fraser helped me with the goal bit)!

Jack assisted with the second goal giving Ellis another  on the score
sheet. Paul said the goal was tremendous and he's not biased!!  After some
neat footwork in the box,Jack was taken down giving us a penalty.  Ellis
stepped up to complete his hat-trick.  Alresford quickly replied with a
goal which took the boys by surprise.  After what seemed like a long half
the ref finally blew his whistle giving us our first win of the season.
Let's hope it's the first of many!

Steve says I have to say that Ellis only scored any of his goals because
he was wearing Steve's boots!!!!  I say, just keep wearing them then!

Goals: Ellis 3
Man of the Match: Ellis
